Font - I work at an upscale Italian restaurant in a tourist destination. For a customer's birthday they get a complimentary with a sparkling Roman candle in it. dessert We have a small staff, so there's not much that goes into bringing out the birthday dessert and usually it's just your server (me) presenting the dessert to the table.

Font - I don't normally sing happy birthday because like I said, it's just me, so I opt for smiling and wishing them a happy whatever it is they're celebrating since the Roman candle is embarrassing enough and draws a lot of attention.

Font - Apparently my managers noticed that I wasn't singing and have been watching me closely to make sure I do. I feel like a court jester.

Font - I can't believe I'm being reprimanded for something so silly since our clientele are mostly adults who find it embarrassing. I get that it's part of the job. But my general opinion is it's so tacky when it's not for like, a little kid.

Facial expression - Maybe I'm overreacting and should just sing Gotta love this through the awkwardness? industry sometimes I guess lol

Smile - UPDATE: So I posted here a few weeks ago regarding my managers getting on me for not singing happy birthday. I decided to suck it up and just sing because it's just a job and I'm trying to practice some stoicism.

Font - But last night a table asked me to sing in Italian (I work at an Italian restaurant) to his wife. I thought he was joking, but he googled the lyrics for me and told me to practice (on a busy Friday night lol.)

Font - So I bring over the sparkler and sing "tagliale a te, tagliale a te" (that's prob wrong ignore my spelling) but didn't remember if there was a bridge in between the last part of the song, like the "happy birthday dear so I trailed of a bit, sang "lalalala, happy birthday to you."

Font - The table complained to management about my quiet Italian singing. You can't make this stuff up...my manager texted me this morning saying he was disappointed that I didn't give them a good birthday song experience

Rectangle - blueoasis32 24 days ago Ugh please stop. I'm having flashbacks from when I was the only Caucasian girl working at Benihana. I used to have to wear a kimono and sing their version of happy birthday in Japanese.

Human body - CaramelMeowchiatto - 24 days ago I don't think you're overreacting at all. As a guest, I would find it embarrassing and awkward.

Font - Less-Law9035 2 days ago Imagine being a grown adult and wanting and expecting a complete stranger (or strangers), to sing to you in a public place. The only people that should be singing to you are your friends/family, in the privacy of someone's residence. I personally always refused to sing to tables. It's annoying to other diners and it would always interrupt my work rhythm when a co-worker said "hey, I need birthday singers". No one over age 10 should be asking for a Happy Birthday so

Font - savannah-banana95 2 days ago I would have explained to management that my training did not include Italian lessons and they can feel free to pay for some if they would like me to continue singing in Italian! Lol.

Mammal - BigMeatSwangN. 2 days ago You sound like a hard worker, leave that place and find somewhere were they will appreciate your effort. As a manager your manager sounds like a corporate loser

Font - Bad-Roommate-2020 - 2 days ago That's really aggravating, because you put in an extra effort. I commend you for deciding to rub some dirt on it and just do that part of the job, even though you don't like to. Good grit.
